A few weeks back Google clarified its User Data Policy for developers submitting apps to the Google Play Store. Among these changes is a requirement to include a privacy policy, with appropriate disclosures, for an app that contains an SDK that collects personally identifiable information (PII).
We sent communications to all of our customers about how to ensure you are compliant with Google’s new data policy.
As a follow-up to that communication please note:
On Android the ability to collect PII from the platform is enabled via the GET_ACCOUNTS permission. If you have no reason to collect PII from the platform, make sure you remove this permission from your application manifest otherwise GooglePlay may reject your app.
If you do have a need to use the GET_ACCOUNTS permission, just be sure you’ve added a privacy policy URL to your app listing and you notify your users that their PII is being collected in the app.
Below is an example of a statement that you can include as part of your existing privacy policy. This statement is appropriate for an app with an analytics SDK such as CleverTap.
