CTzen Stories: Sreeram K V – Better a ‘Jack of All Trades’ Than Master of Only One

CTzen Stories: Sreeram K V – Better a ‘Jack of All Trades’ Than Master of Only One

Everyone has a story waiting to be heard. We’re highlighting some of the amazing stories from within CleverTap — from our very own CTzens — because we believe in the amazing people we work with every day and want to share the exciting work culture that we’ve built together. Presenting: the CTzens of CleverTap.

Sreeram K V: In His Own Words

Being an only child, I often read a lot of comic books, took part in quizzes, and became a part of every cultural contest. I was also a trained Carnatic musician and percussionist specializing in Chenda which is an instrument used in Kerala Temple art. We used to perform professionally, with my first public performance during my third standard. After my tenth standard, my interest in science made me take up that stream.
I did my engineering at Government Engineering College in Thrissur District of Kerala. Thrissur was also famous as the cultural capital of the state. This gave me an opportunity to dabble in a lot of different things. For example, I helped start a film club and a quiz club there.

Education, Opportunities, Exploration

During my first year, I was also a part of a Non-Government Organization called MAD (which stood for Make A Difference) which is now a nationwide organization. I did my Bachelors Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Wanting to keep myself busy in my last couple of years, I got involved in a few ventures, one of which was with a friend’s startup where I did business development and headed Operations. We pursued a lot of niche markets (for example, event management for graduation) in order to generate revenue streams.
Then a friend asked me to help set up the business development function for his company, which sold ERP solutions to Ayurvedic manufacturing companies. This entailed an end-to-end process, from conception to implementation. I was involved right from the pitch deck to overseeing on-ground implementation.

Learning to Code and Further Exploration

From there, I started learning coding which I truly enjoyed and so decided to further explore this potential path. I found a mentor who taught me the ‘right way’ to approach coding. But, I didn’t have a job in coding. Instead, a friend and I both got jobs creating content for an edutainment show (“Kuttikalodano Kali” owned by Endemol Shine) which won the state award for the Best Entertainment Show that year.
After that job ended, I heard about a Hackathon organized by Swathanthra Malayalam Computing, a community that invests heavily in vernacular language computing. The goal of the Hackathon was to bring the Malayalam dictionary online. Two of the project leaders liked my work and offered me a position as a Product Engineer. I accepted and after two years, they offered me a position in Growth Engineering. In this role, I built various growth-related tools for the product which also involved a simpler version of CleverTap.
In 2019, a friend invited me to the Jaipur Literature Fest which inspired me creatively. I met a lot of people who were amazing. I was introduced to Busking there.

Myriad Interests Driving Me Forward

My driving factor has always been challenging myself to explore the best version of myself. I wanted to excel at many different things and create a niche category for myself by finding synergy combining all the things I have done up to this point.
When I interviewed at CleverTap, I mentioned that my old company had replaced the system I created with CleverTap, which made joining CleverTap come full circle for me. My role here in Customer Success Management requires both multitasking and empathy toward my clients. Being able to focus on multiple things at one time is a strength that helps me be effective in my role. I also appreciate that the people here are always open to ideas. This lets me think freely and feeds my creativity.
I am truly passionate about building things. I consider myself a creator, and I try to add value to every project I take on. I truly believe in the value of exploring new fields and skills and want to keep learning and keep discovering, consciously and fearlessly.
