CTzen Stories: Simona Stancheva on Why Pure Mathematics is the Poetry of Logical Ideas

Everyone has a story waiting to be heard. We’re highlighting some of the amazing stories from within CleverTap — from our very own CTzens — because we believe in the amazing people we work with everyday and want to share the exciting work culture that we’ve built together. Presenting: the CTzens of CleverTap.

Simona Stancheva: In Her Own Words

I was born and grew up in a small town in Bulgaria. From a young age, I enjoyed solving math problems, and I began entering competitions where I won many medals. In general, I also found learning to be an enriching and rewarding experience. I pursued my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the American University. Attending college there was a rich cultural experience as well and gave me a lot of exposure to students from different nationalities.
Still following my passion for numbers, I worked as an auditor for over two years where I learned a lot about working for big corporations, inventory, production, and more. This inspired in me an interest in entrepreneurship. During my time at university, I participated in Start-up Weekends, where we had a week to create an idea for a company and pitch it to investors. The best part was there was a real-world aspect to it because the jury were real investors.
It was a very validating experience that helped me develop an entrepreneurial mindset. I decided I wanted to explore it further and, with my background in auditing, I joined the finance team at Leanplum, in its Sofia office. Only a few positions were open but the timing was perfect.

Many Passions

Understanding and empathizing with people is another passion, and I love organizing events and get-togethers to bring people together. For example, we have an annual event at my University which brings back the alumni together overnight, and I have been organizing this event for the last few years. Whether it’s organizing trips, meals, game nights, reunions — I love doing it all!
This passion was nurtured from an early age. Growing up, I participated in a few charities and initiatives like planting trees and collecting donations for children’s homes and this work has always given me a lot of pleasure. I love dogs, and climbing the highest mountains in the areas around is one of my favorite hobbies. I am passionate about cooking and would love to learn art in some form.

Grace Under Pressure

In general, solving problems comes naturally to me as I have a great ability to think critically and a good memory for details. This has helped me in all my various pursuits.
With CleverTap’s acquisition of Leanplum, the process of combining two companies comes with some huge challenges. To experience the entire process is a significant learning opportunity, and watching the teams merge seamlessly is an experience on its own. Working in finance involves working under pressure, and delivering excellently under pressure is also one of my strengths.
Still, I am conscious of maintaining a work life balance by continuing to pursue different activities and adapting different stress-busters for the same. I encourage everyone to do the same. I’ll leave everyone with a beautiful quote, “Invest in your work life balance.”
