Organic Traffic

December 10, 2018

Organic traffic is basically the number of visitors that come to your website due to the content you publish. These visitors aren’t brought in by paid ads but simply by producing content that is relevant to your target market.

How is Organic Traffic Different From Direct Traffic or Paid Traffic?

Direct traffic is from people who type your website URL directly into their browsers. But organic traffic is from people who have found your website after using a search engine such as Google or Bing.

Paid traffic requires a budget and monetary payment to bring audiences to you. Meanwhile, organic traffic is mostly free. The only real payment is in SEO research and in the sweat equity of producing the content.

How Do You Increase Organic Traffic?

There are entire books and websites that delve into this meaty topic, making it much too broad to cover in a single glossary entry.

At a high level, the easiest way to increase organic traffic is to:

  • Publish high-quality content
  • Publish content that is relevant to your prospects
  • Publish consistently, ideally at least once a week

The Secret to Organic Traffic: SEO

To produce content efficiently, you have to use Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tactics to do several things:

  • Check what people are typing into search engines to find you. Are those the terms you want to be found with?
  • Look at what keywords your competitors are ranking for, and outdo their best posts by improving them.
  • Find search terms and keyword phrases that signal purchase intent. Ideally, find the ones with high volume but low competition. This will allow you to more easily dominate the results for those keywords and keyword phrases.
