Backlinks

July 6, 2018

Backlinks are hyperlinks on other websites that route back to your website and your web pages. It is an integral part of the link building strategy that marketers use in order to influence SEO for their brand, and is often a difficult process because you not only have to build links that point back to your website, you have to ensure these are high quality links.

The Importance of Backlinks: Search Ranking

Any time that another website links back to your website, you earn a backlink. By increasing high quality backlinks to your website, you are giving your brand some much-needed authority that allows it to rise to the top of search engine results pages (SERPs).

In short, good backlinks determine how a search engine ranks your website in SERPs.

This is one reason why any effort to improve SEO for your website and mobile app will always include outreach to influencers who might post about your app in their own websites or blogs. The end goal is backlinks from websites with authority in your industry.

Other Benefits of Backlinks to Your Brand

Apart from your rank in search engine result pages, there are other benefits of building high quality backlinks to your brand’s content and to your mobile app. They include:

  • Brand awareness: As you build links, you establish authority as a leader in your field. If your content showcases your deep expertise, this may be considered thought leadership, and is a much sought after quality in a brand for most industries. The point being: backlinks increase awareness and positive reputation for your brand.
  • Relationship building: As you reach out to influencers in your industry and ask them to promote your mobile app, you are forging business relationships that are two way. Hopefully, the influencers you reach end up promoting your app and your brand. But also, you are giving them new content they can talk or write about.
  • Referral traffic: If an influencer decides to promote your brand, they send referral traffic your way – these are people in the influencer’s network who only got to your app because of the referral of the influencer. This is a valuable boost of traffic when needed, though not always a good source of conversion. It does, however, ultimately improve brand awareness.
